Firefly Class ( Year 1)
Welcome back to the final term for this year. I hope you all had an enjoyable break?
We are in our final term and although on countdown to summer, we have definitely not slowed down. We still have a number of events to look forward to including sports day and a trip to Margate.
In English this term topics that we will be learning:
- Poetry – focusing on using our senses
- Stories from other cultures
- Fiction stories about Minibeasts
We will be continuing to focus on core skills and making sure our sentences structure is correct. We need these to be secure ready for Year 2.
Consolidating our learning and building on these further to extend our understanding including:
- The four operations
- Counting forwards and backwards in different steps
- Measurement – weight and time.
Our Topic this term is Growth. We will be looking at the growth of animals, plants and lifecycles of different mini beasts.
This term we are learning about Plants. We will be looking at what lives in the garden, and linking this to our topic.
We are very fortunate to have P.E sessions with Mr Andy Booker every Friday morning, so can you please ensure that your child has their kit in their school.
Modern Foreign Languages (MFL)
We are also very lucky to have weekly French lessons with Madame Valerie Neaves on a Tuesday afternoon. This is a fantastic opportunity for the children to continue to learn all the colours numbers and fruits.
Homework task boards have been stuck into homework books or sent home in book bags. Homework would be looked at every Friday and children will have the opportunity to share their home learning with the class.
Your child’s reading book is sent home every night and they are encouraged to read at home as often as possible. Reading is such an important aspect of your child’s education so if you could listen to your child read at least 3 times a week, even if it is only a few pages, it would really be appreciated!
Should you have any questions and concerns please come and see me.
Many thanks for all your continued support.
